Scranton is served by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP). While the airport is closer to Scranton, it is named after the nearby town of Wilkes-Barre. This naming convention was a compromise made in 1945 between Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties. The IATA airport code for the airport (AVP) came about when the airport was built in the 1930’s near the town of Avoca, PA and has not changed.
AVP is served by American, United, and Breeze air lines. #LCCA2025
